On our way to Monument Valley, my family was held up by a flat tire in Kayenta, Arizona. Of the already limited number of surrounding gas stations and storefronts, an even smaller number were open on Sunday. The lone cashier in a dusty convenience store gave us the number of John Yazzie- the only guy in a forty mile radius who could replace our tire. We called and waited, killing the time by eating ice cream cones at a McDonald’s, until John came to our rescue. Needless to say, the view of the valley made our trek worth-while and John’s surprisingly warm countenance made up for what was almost a disastrous day.
